Camworth recently hosted a webinar with Cisco to share insights around significant innovations made in their security portfolio in 2023 (the largest in a decade), and how the platform approach to cyber security will provide the scale of protection and digital resilience that customers demand.

You can watch the Webinar Recording here.

Here’s a summary of the key takeaways from the webinar on how Cisco’s new platform-approach to security can enhance your organisation’s security posture.

The Evolving Threat Landscape

Cyber threats are continuously evolving, and the complexity of managing multiple security solutions can be overwhelming. Historically, many organisations have adopted a “best of breed” approach, selecting solutions that focus on specific problems. Sahib Pooni, security specialist at Cisco, explained that this approach has led to a patchwork of security products over the past 20-30 years. Consequently, organisations might be managing anywhere between 30 to 100 different vendors, making it challenging to focus on actual security. Cisco recognises this issue and supports the “best of breed” approach with a wide range of security solutions while also advocating for a more integrated, “best-of-suite” strategy to streamline security management.

This strategy aims to simplify the complexity of managing multiple security products by focusing on high-security outcomes in a more manageable and digestible way. The security landscape encompasses various areas such as identity, detection and response, network security, secure service edge, and observability. By addressing these areas with integrated solutions, they can better meet the diverse capabilities customers need, making the overall management of security more efficient and effective.

Cisco Security Cloud

Cisco Security Cloud is an integrated AI-powered security platform that minimises the need for multiple point solutions for user protection, cloud protection, and breach protection. Cisco have been innovating across their entire Security Cloud platform – not just new features or enhancements – in many cases, they’re brand new product categories and architectures being brought to the market, giving customers better security efficacy, better IT and user experiences, and better economics.

Comprehensive Security Suites

Cisco’s security solutions are organised into comprehensive suites designed to cover various aspects of cybersecurity:

User Protection Suite

This suite focuses on posture and authentication management, email security, endpoint security, and security service edge. It simplifies management with a single licence subscription, service, and renewal, and includes capabilities like Cisco Duo for authentication and ThousandEyes for experience insights.

Cloud Protection Suite

With the growing adoption of cloud services, the Cloud Protection Suite addresses workload security, application security, vulnerability management, and multi-cloud defence. It ensures zero trust principles across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, maintaining robust security.

Breach Protection Suite

The Breach Protection Suite provides tools for protection, detection, and response to security incidents. It includes extended detection and response (XDR) solutions, which are simple to implement and beneficial for organisations of all sizes.

Benefits of a Platform approach

Because it’s a platform, Cisco Security Cloud is designed to take advantage of common elements – including a common management plane. Cisco Security Cloud Control will become (the target is to deliver by October 2024) the single unified management interface for the entire Security Cloud, which will dramatically simplify the security admin and IT experience.

AI-Powered Algorithms and the Role of Talos

Cisco employs AI-powered algorithms that analyse vast amounts of data to identify patterns and detect anomalies. This rapid threat detection is further supported by Cisco Talos which observes over 550 billion security events daily, feeding valuable data into AI algorithms to improve efficacy.

Cisco Talos plays a crucial role in Cisco’s security strategy. As the largest non-governmental threat intelligence group, Talos collaborates with various alliances and industry groups, ensuring that Cisco’s solutions are informed by the latest threat intelligence and best practices. The data observed by Talos feeds into AI algorithms, enhancing the efficacy of Cisco’s security solutions.

AI assistants act as digital companions, automating routine tasks and providing actionable insights. These assistants help reduce human error and increase operational efficiency, allowing IT staff to focus on strategic initiatives.

Leveraging Cisco’s AI-powered security solutions can provide robust defence for your IT infrastructure, enhancing your organisation’s security posture. By integrating advanced technologies like AI and machine learning, Cisco offers comprehensive, manageable, and effective security solutions tailored to modern organisational needs.
